“That ICPA Qld lobbies Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) offering Degrees and Certificates in Education and Education Support, to recognize students enrolled in these tertiary education courses for their prior experience gained while working in the role as a Home Tutor, assisting children learning through Distance Education.”
Home Tutors play a vital role in the education of Distance Education students and their families. Home Tutors gain a vast amount of essential teaching experience and support skills while in this role. This important time spent in the classroom should provide Home Tutors wanting to further their education in tertiary pathways, recognition of prior learning (RPL) for some course units, as well as reduced classroom time for placement.
With the shortage of teachers and teacher aides across rural and remote Australia, Home Tutors are an ‘untapped asset’. By formally recognising their commitment, skills developed, and experience gained during their time in the classroom, this would promote and encourage the number of students enrolling in RTOs to become much needed qualified teachers and teacher aides.
